No blogging this week... or next

Just letting everybody know that I haven't had the opportunity to play online poker over the past week, nor will I have time over the next week. So there will be no updates until the 1st week of October. Sorry.

On another note, I'll be in Vegas next week, and hopefully I'll have some interesting hands/games to blog about when I get back.

In the meantime, good luck at the tables.

September Goals Week 3 Update

Here's an update on my goals for September.

This past week I continued playing the $2 Double Or Nothing STT on Mansion. I managed to play 9 games and cashed in 7. This brought my BR up to $46.77 (+$8.20) and my points up to 73.7 (+9). Since I probably won't have much time to play this week, I'm going to stay at the $2 DoN until I reach over $50 and then go back to the $5.

If you would like a daily update on my Player Points Challenge check out my posts on the PokerBRB forums.

On RedKings I didn't play any DoN games last week. I decided to try their MAD Tilt All-In tournaments. The concept is you get very little chips (60) and the blinds start at 10-20 going up every 3 minutes. It is pretty much a 'donkfest' where you take any 2 cards and try to survive each hand. The great part is that the payout is huge compared to the buy-in. I played in 3 of these last week, 1 was a 10 person winner take all, while the other 2 were 50 people games where the top 3 get paid. I managed to win a 50 person game for a $50 1st prize. This increased my BR to $94.35 (+$43.40) and 3 more points.

I also managed to play 2 $2.40 Jackpot tournaments on Titan but failed to make the money there, bring my BR down $4.80.

Well that is all for last week, check back next week to see how this week went.

Good luck at the tables.

Biggest Online Win to date!

Tonight I played in a $2.20 - 50 person MAD Tilt All-in tournament where everybody gets 60 chips, the blinds start at 10-20 and go up every 3 mins. Top 3 get paid ($50, $30, $20). It is pretty much a 'donkfest' where everybody goes all-in all the time and yours truly managed to take it down. $50 to me which brought my BR up to a little over $94 on RedKings. Woo Hoo!

September Goals Week 2 Update

Here's an update on my goals for September.

This past week I decided to only play in the $2 Double or Nothing Sit'N'Go tournaments on Mansion. I managed to play 15 games. This meant I accumulated 15 points (I now have 64.7) and increased my BR to $38.57 (+$7). I've decided to keep playing in the $2 DoN games until my BR is over $55, then I will jump back into the $5 DoN.

If you would like a daily update on my Player Points Challenge check out my posts on the PokerBRB forums.

As for RedKings, I only managed to play in 1 $2 DoN and 2 $5 DoN. I only managed to make the money in 1 of the $5 tourneys, which meant decreasing my BR to $50.95 (-$3.20). I did increase my points to 44.5 (+6). Since I've been focusing on reaching some of my Mansion points, I only play 1 game a night on RedKings, when I have the chance to play.

After having such a great week on Titan last week, I decided to keep playing there when the opportunity came up. This past week I played 3 $2 12 person SnG games where I finished 3rd in 1 and out of the money in the other 2 for a net loss of $3.60.

Well that is all for this week, check back next week to see how things are going.

Good luck at the tables.

The pro’s and con’s of multi-tabling

Check out my new blog on PokerBankrollBlog.

Good luck at the tables.

and that's where it ends

Well all good things have to come to an end eventually. In my last post I bragged about how well I was running, and tonight it all came crashing down. It actually started yesterday where I barely broke even (+1.30) by making the money in 3 out of 6, but tonight I went 1 for 4 and a loss of $8.60. Oh well, calling it quits for the night should help me be ready for tomorrow's Freeroll brought to you by PokerBankrollBlog.

Good luck at the tables.

Running well...kinda

For the past week I've been on a little heater. I've played a total of 22 tournaments varying in buy-ins from $2.20 to $5.50. During this time I've increased my overall BR (all 3 BR combined) by $23.60

I've made the money in 6 out of 7 $2 Double or Nothing tournaments and 5 out of 5 $2.40 Jackpot tournaments, just missing the $2000 Jackpot by 2 spots (I won 3 straight and finished 3rd in the 4th that would had given me the jackpot had I won it).

Let's hope, nah screw hope, let's keep playing well and see how high I can take this.

Good luck at the tables.

September Goals Week 1 Update

Here's an update on my goals for September.

To this point I've played 12 $5+0.50 Double or Nothing games on Mansion and have placed in the money in 5 for a net loss of $16. I have managed to accumulate 30 points during this week which now puts me at 49.70. Only 100.3 to go to reach my first bonus. I've decided to drop down to the $2+0.20 DoN games and try to build my BR back to $50 before playing the $5+0.50 games again.

Since I've been mostly playing on Mansion, I've only played 2 $2+0.20 Double or Nothing games on RedKings and finished in the money in 1 (net loss of $0.40). I did increase my points to 38.5 (+2) . I had originally planned on playing in the $5+0.50 DoN, but decided that since the RedKings money is guaranteed, there was no reason to play at a higher level and risk losing the money trying to attain the next bonus level.

On another note, the other day I couldn't get on to either Mansion or RedKings (they were having network problems) so I played a game on Titan. Since then I've played 3 more games on Titan where I managed to win 3 $2+0.40 12 person 2 table tournaments and finished 3rd in another, which increased my Titan Bankroll to $89.37 (+$30). Not bad for not playing there in almost 2 months.

If you would like a daily update on my Player Points Challenge check out my posts on the PokerBRB forums.

Well that is all for this week, check back next week to see how things are going.

Good luck at the tables.

Goals for September

Over the past week, I've been thinking about what my poker goals should be for September. Should they only differ from my August poker goals or should they be completely different? Although my August poker goals were fine, and not set too high, I think I need to refocus my games to fit my short term poker goal of reaching my required points on both Mansion poker (600) and RedKings poker (1000). This means 1 of two things: 1) I play in higher level poker games to get more points and risk losing my BR at those spots, or 2) I play more poker games at the same level in hopes of accumulating the same points faster. Currently I have the following points as of today: Mansion (19.70) and RedKings (36.50).

On RedKings Poker, I accumulate 5 points for every $1 of rake I create in poker tournaments (that is all I've been playing on this site). This means that if I want to reach 1000 points before Oct 26th, 2008 (3 month deadline) then I would need to generate another $192 in rake, which works out to be 192 $10+1 tournaments. That is a high number when I only have a little over $54 in my account.

Now on Mansion Poker, my stats show that I accumulate 1 point for every $1 (to a max of 3 points) of rake I create in cash games (that is all I've been playing on this site). This means that if I want to reach 600 points before November 26th, 2008 (120 day deadline) then I would need to generate another $580 in rake, which means playing plenty of hands. I don't think that that is possible.

Now back to my dilemma. Do I increase the BI for the games I play, or increase the amount of games I play? As per my August goals review I played more /games than previous months and I missed about 1 week of playing in there. So increasing the amount of games is possible, but not to the level needed (I would probably have to triple or more the amount I play to get close). This leaves me with the option of playing higher BI games which would mean still playing more, but getting more points for each game played allowing me to increase my points quicker. The problem here is that I could easily lose my BR sooner than I want.

This brings me to my decision. On RedKings Poker I will set a more reachable goal of 150 points before the end of this month. That works out to be $30 in rake, or 60 $5+0.50 Double or Nothing tournaments. All I need to do is stay somewhere around 60% in the money to break even. Last month I played in 11 $2+.20 Double or Nothing tournaments and cashed in 8 for an average of 72.7% in the money (+$7.8). I also played in some other tournaments and cash games (that I lost) to bring my BR closer to breakeven. If I can be close to that goal, then I can focus in October on reaching 250 before my October 26th deadline. On the other hand, if I see that my BR is taking a major hit, as per me losing more than winning, then I will go back to the lower level Double or Nothing tourneys and grind it out until I'm either broke or I can reach my 1200 points to allow me to cash out.

On Mansion poker, I will need to do roughly the same, that is, reach close to 150 points by the end of the month. The good part is that they offer the following bonuses along the way: 150 points - $8 Bonus, 300 points - $10 Bonus, 400 points - A ticket for a $20+$2 Tournament, and 500 points - $12 Bonus. Although cash games don't generate as many points as I would like, I know that Mansion follows the same tournament point structure as RedKings Poker (they are both part of the OnGame network, so 5 points for every $1 in tournament rake). This means that if I want to increase my points quicker, I should be playing the $5+0.50 Double or Nothing tourneys like RedKings Poker, which is what I will aim to do. One thing to keep in mind is that, since Mansion is a use it or lose it BR, I need to be over $50 at the end of my 120 days. This means that if my bankroll is dropping quickly (i.e. losing more than winning) then I really don't need to worry as the money won't be lasting the full 120 days, so I will keep it up until it is fully gone.

I plan to blog my status on a weekly basis, so check back often and wish me luck.
